Hollywood Blockbusters Continue to Underperform as 2016 ProgressesMovies always have people going into the theaters having high expectations but lately Hollywood has been off their game when it comes to making hit movies. In 2016, Paramount Pictures released “Ben-Hur” based on the 1958 movie about a chariot racer in biblical times. Ben-Hur became Hollywood’s latest big-budget bomb which the film cost $100 million to make. The film grossed only $11.2 million on opening weekend adding onto several releases of remakes that have fallen flat on their face. Summer of 2016 has marked disappointment for Hollywood as Hollywood churned out a stream of easy-to-ignore remakes and sequels of popular franchises like Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Legend Of Tarzan, Independence Day: Resurgence, Ghostbusters, Ben-Hur, and Zoolander. 2016 has been nothing more than a nightmare for Hollywood. Paul Dergarabedian, Senior Media Analyst at ComScore, explained, “Emotionally this was a tough summer on the industry and a bit of a letdown for moviegoers.” The consequences of underperforming movies have shown as Paramount Pictures hit rock bottom in dead 6th place amongst 5 other movie companies on box office success. Most of these movies have high budgets but somehow only gross less than half of the budget and most of these budgets consist of over $100 million dollars spent. The Bloom Room proudly created the arrangements for the Naperville Education Foundation's pre-race dinner, in support of TEAM NEF running the Naperville Marathon and Half-Marathon. The NEF pre-race dinner is the largest event The Bloom Room has worked on to date, completing 40 arrangements using Gatorade bottles. Our students worked with Hydrangea and Alstermaria to coordinate with the NEF's blue and green colors and red gingham check tablecloths. microConnections donated 100 bookmarks to the NEF in support of TEAM NEF as a gift to the runners. We even made a custom microConnections tag for the event, highlighting NEF's support of microConnections and alignment between the mission of the NEF and microConnections. microConnections was thrilled to be featured in Lisa Xagas' keynote address where one of our students joined her on stage to talk about the impact microConnections has on our students and their job skill development. We were thrilled to be part of a lovely evening for such a great cause. Please enjoy some images from our recent Snack Shack Ribbon Cutting Celebration. |
