Today I am going to a job interview. The job is for a pet store called Pet Supplies Plus. I'm really hoping I get this job.
S We are thrilled to report that S was offered the position where he will be cleaning dog bath tubs, stocking, facing, and assisting customers. It was also shared that during the interview, S was humorous, professional, and focused - way to go! We are so proud of S and excited for him as he looks forward to his first day on the job. We are thankful for the Naperville community and their support of our students.

Hey Cubs fans, it’s time to put the billy goat, Steve Bartman, and the black cat behind us. For the first time in over 108 years everyone who is affiliated with the Cubs can officially say, “THE CUBS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!!” On November 2, 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history. For the first time since 1908 the Cubs won the World Series. This franchise has been the mockery of sports for over a century without a World Series title, something that (hopefully) no other sports team in all of sports ever has had to suffer. The Cubs for decades have been ridiculed by curses such as the the Billy Goat that was banned from Wrigley Field, Steve Bartman reaching out for the foul ball, and the black cat that walked past Ron Santo in Shea Stadium in 1969. But now the goat has been axed, Steve Bartman has been found innocent, and the black cat has been tossed in the litter box.
For the first time in over 100 years the Cubs have officially won the World Series, something that everyone in sports thought the Cubs would never do again. Unfortunately in sports, there always has to be a loser and that was the Cleveland Indians who are suffering the same situation the Cubs were in; facing a long championship drought. The Indians have won two World Series in their franchise’s history in 1920 and 1948. Sadly, the Cleveland Indians have inherited the new longest drought in Major League Baseball at 68 years without a World Series title to their name. In general, Cleveland sports were always depressing until June of 2016. Instead of the Cleveland Indians, the Cavaliers brought the NBA finals trophy to the city of Cleveland, beating the heavily favored Golden State Warriors in seven games to end Cleveland’s long 54 year sports championship drought. This victory meant a lot to Cleveland fans - not only has it broken their long 54 year curse but it is the first Cleveland Cavaliers championship. During the series, the Cavaliers fell 3 games to 1 against Golden State. The Golden State Warriors were having a magical season of 73-9, surpassing the 1996 Chicago Bulls best NBA record at 72-10. But I guess 73-9 hurts doesn’t it, Golden State? When Cleveland was in the World Series they pushed the Cubs to the brink, leading the series 3 games to 1. But the 3-1 deficit comeback came back to haunt them as the Cubs won 3 straight games; 3-2, 9-3, and 8-7. Amazingly, Lebron attended the games and when the Indians tied the game 6-6 in the last inning, the entire city erupted and Lebron just gave the entire world a face that I had to ridicule if the Indians lost, which they did. I’m gonna admit I’m not a die hard Chicago Cubs fan and I heavily favor my New York Yankees but for the Cubs to have gotten as far as they did, I just felt bad for them, I really wanted the curse to end. Fortunately, I got to see a guy I met, Miguel Montero, get the game clinching RBI in the 10th inning, making the city of Chicago party like 1999. My parents have seen a lot in their lives: Bears win the Super Bowl 1985; Bulls win the NBA finals 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998 (despite my parents living in New Jersey at the time); White Sox win the World Series 2005; the Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cups 2010, 2013, and 2015; and now the Cubs winning the World Series 2016. It’s magical, honestly, even if you’re not a Chicagoan, you just witnessed history in the making. Think of those who were born or died after 1908 and they never got to see the Cubs win the World Series, heck they hadn’t even see them win the pennant since 3 months after World War II ended! And honestly, I’ve never seen a team shutout so many times in a championship run. The Cubs were shutout more than 2 times, and STILL WON IT ALL. In my perspective, I think to be a true sports fan you have to be a fan of one team from each conference. I am a Cubs fan from the National League and I am a Yankees fan from the American League. I attended the Cubs parade and it was predicted that 5 million people attended (I honestly thought there would be more). I took some great pictures and getting to see David Ross hoist the World Series trophy was magical. The crowd completely lost it when they saw Rizzo and Bryant on the same bus. The Cubs have officially made history and parents are grateful for their kids because these young kids don’t have to endure the drought they had to suffer. I love all the naysayers and trash talkers from San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Cleveland because the way they kept trashing us was like trashing Aquaman (everyone says how terrible Aquaman is when he’s just as good as everyone else). This is without a doubt, the best year in baseball. T What do you think - where you holding your breath throughout the World Series like all of Chicagoland, rooting for the Cubs? New arrangement opportunities continue to come our way as word spreads throughout the community about The Bloom Room. As always, new experiences bring new challenges and learning for our students. Peggy Keifer, a staff member at Ann Reid Early Childhood Center, approached The Bloom Room to create centerpieces using brass bowls for a post wedding party that would incorporate creams and burgundies. The Bloom Room welcomed the opportunity to learn about how to work with oasis, a floral foam brick, and different techniques for arranging flowers in bowls. With Peggy's colors in mind, we turned to Trader Joe's, our amazing business partner, for our beautiful flowers, using red Roses, stunning burgundy Calla Lilies, white Tiger Lily's, pink Alstroemeria, and three species of Eucalyptus, our trusty greenery. We are beyond proud of the stunning centerpieces that our students created, they are lovely. We are thankful for Peggy for the opportunity and to be a part of this important family event. These past two weeks have been full of new opportunities for The Bloom Room. We were very excited to be asked to create petite bouquets for Center Stage Theater actors. Kandiss Hernandez, Center Stage Theater Director and proud Connections business partner, approached The Bloom Room this fall with the idea of creating petite bouquets for the Guys and Dolls Jr. fall show. For more information about Center Stage Theater, click here - Center Stage Theater. Center Stage Theater is a wonderful organization and a vibrant community performing arts center, We loved the idea of creating petite and bespoke bouquets for the young performers and new experiences offer our students the opportunity to learn new skills. We dove in and again, turned to Trader Joe's, our lovely business partner, for our flowers, using a combination of Farmer's Market Long Stem Roses, Alstroemeria, Euclapytus, Gypsophila, and other greenery to create 70 unique bouquets for two weekends of performances. Much thanks to Kandiss, for thinking of us, and our students, who are always ready to learn something new. The bouquets were beautiful. Let us know if you have an event that you would like The Bloom Room to do the arrangements for, we would be happy to work with you. Thrilled doesn't quite capture how excited The Bloom Room was to be asked to do the flowers for the 2016 Illinois Council of Exceptional Children's State Convention. The theme of this years' convention is 'Exceptional Student: Exceptional Learners' and some greats within the field of Education, including Dr. Marilyn Friend and Dr. Patrick Schwarz, are participating this year. It is a privilege to showcase our students' work at the convention. Bloom Room students used Bloom Room mason jars and twine and worked with Starburst Roses, Gypsophila, Alstermaria, and Euclapytus to create the beautiful arrangements. First, several Bloom Room students used the twine to ring the top of the jars while simultaneously adding our tag and others prepared the flower food mixture. Next, students sorted the flowers by type, cutting the stems to the appropriate length to reach the desired height when arranged while adding food water to the bottom of each jar. After this step is when the fun begins! Our students enjoy using their artistic talents to place and arrange the flowers in the vessels, wanting to showcase the beauty of each individual flower. Lastly, the arrangements were packed, ready for delivery. Thank you ICEC for the wonderful opportunity, we are honored to be a part of the 2016 State Convention. Let us know if you have an event that you would like Bloom Room students to do the arrangements for, we would be happy to work with you. |
